771 XEON mod 790i Temps Retro PC GAMING

Air cooling a 790i motherboard with the 771 Xeon mod on socket 775. First runs of this retro gaming pc build to check temperatures before overclocking the windows 7 system. A large heatpipe type cpu cooler with a convex base and how this affects the quad core cpu. The socket 771 intel xeon mod turns the cpu in the socket of the mother board and therefore the direction of the “convex” on the base of the cooler must straddle the cpu die.

If trying to exhaust the heated air from the fractal design focus g case from the top the convexity of the thermalright Ultra extreme air coolers heat-pipes run in between the location of the cpu die under the heat spreader. The cure for this is only achieved by removing enough of the convex base to increase the contact patch of the cpu heatsink to cover all 4 cores. Only then may this air cooler be used in a “out the top” exhaust orientation. The cure for this is only achieved by removing enough of the convex base to increase the contact patch of the cpu heatsink to cover all 4 cores. Only then may this air cooler be used in a “out the top” exhaust orientation. This can only be fixed by lapping the cpu cooler base. I will show you how to lap the cpu cooler base in an up coming video.

The central locations of both the convex, and the heat pipes is best for a single core cpu, However once the base of the cpu cooler is flattened, and the clamping pressure is increased, this type of air cooler preforms extremely well on an over clocked gaming pc and be quiet as well. comments = SHARE ROCKNTV1
